The Stenographic Institute of WNY is committed to making this website usable for everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and we review the site regularly as we add content.
What We Have Built In
- A "skip to main content" link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Visible keyboard focus outlines on links, buttons, and form fields.
- Descriptive link text and labels, with aria-labels on icon-only links.
- A logical, non-skipping heading order and one main heading per page.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images.
- Web fonts served from our own server, so no data is sent to third parties to display the site.
The Accessibility Menu
Every page includes a custom accessibility menu in the bottom-left corner, shown by the accessibility icon. Open it to turn on any of these options, and your choices are remembered on your next visit:
- Bigger Text enlarges the page for easier reading.
- High Contrast switches to a high-contrast color scheme.
- Grayscale removes color to reduce visual noise.
- Highlight Links makes every link stand out.
- Readable Font switches to a plain, highly legible typeface.
- Letter Spacing widens the space between letters and words.
- Line Spacing opens up the space between lines of text.
- Big Cursor enlarges the mouse pointer.
- Pause Motion stops the background video and animations.
- Reset returns the page to its default appearance.
